I suppose after about three weeks of "Wizard of Oz" references in my tweets on Twitter, an explanation is in order.
You see, as an adult, sometimes I see things in my life in black and white, and sometimes they are a different color.
Oh, to be sure, important matters like paying bills, caring for my family are tangibles that none of us can get around. I mean, how long could you stay in your home if you didn't pay the rent or mortgage?
How long would your husband or wife stay happy with you if you ignored them or even worse, never set aside time to keep the relationship fresh? Not long, right?
However, there are things I draw into my life that are not so specific, tangible or certain.
Starting and running a business is one of those things.
There is no perfect blueprint to success in business, online or offline, so the road to a solid, meaningful, rewarding and growing business can be fraught with many challenges.
It is different for every niche and every owner.
So, it dawned on me that while I am on the road to building authority, branding myself as a business consultant in the internet marketing arena as well as creating some wonderful business relationships in the social networking arena, this journey is similar to the trek Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Lion took on their way to the Land of Oz to meet the Wizard.
Oz was just a metaphor for the ultimate goal each of them had:
Dorothy - to go home, feel loved, comforted and safe
Scarecrow - to prove he was smart & intelligent
Tin Man - to prove he had feelings and was not totally rigid
Lion - to prove that he could be courageous and a real friend
The Wizard - someone who lost his way, knows his limitations and wants to help others
As I see it, we all have an "OZ" we're trying to get to and we all can be one of the main characters in this story.
Whether it is a financial, self-improvement, family or educational goal, it's there before us, and we are all on our own trek to reach it...to reach our "OZ".
By the way, in case your were wondering, "OZ" stands for Opportunity Zenith.
Opportunity Zenith is the accomplishing of a goal I've established for myself and reaching it is a source of pride, well-being and forward motion.
As I move through the "wilderness" that internet marketing can be, I encourage others to join me as we support each other to accomplish our online goals.
The pitfalls we face: Building a website, blog, providing valuable content, making videos or audios are like the troubles Dorothy & her pals had when they faced flying monkeys, apple orchards with bad attitudes and a wicked witch (there's always one).
So, join me on my journey to the Land of OZ, as together we accomplish our goals by supporting each other and create lasting memories and even better releationships.
So, my question to you is:
"Which character from the Wizard of Oz do you most associate with?"
Me? Well, I'm THE SCARECROW!
Please leave your comments and share these thoughts with others.
I'm more like Dorothy. I find myself always looking for home. Whenever I start straying away from my authentic self and start to become someone I'm not (the Scarecrow, Lion, or what ever) I like to remind myself, "There's no place like home".
This works very well in social media. Start trying to be someone you're not, and all your friends (tweets) find someone else to play with. Find your way home (be yourself) and the folks that resonate with you, will find you and become fans.
How do you find your way home? Follow the inspiration.

Opportunity Zenith= OZ ! What a wonderful and clever analogy. I use analogy and think in images all the time.
I never thought about which character I evoke. But many people have told me that I remind them of the lion, not for lack of courage, but for the fuzzy mane and a smile that reminds them of the lion in the wizard of OZ. I will think about this now. Thanks.
Great Post. Life is a journey and at different times and places in life, I probably have been all of them. Right now, I'm back to being Dorothy discovering the wonders of this life.
Much success and happiness on your journey Anthony...www.jjmichael.org
The witch--the good one, that is! Giving love and encouraging others to go for their dreams by inspiring them to realize they had it in them all along! Warmly, Barbara, The Spirited Strider
I'm Dorothy, alright--on a spiritual journey fraught with fear and danger--helped along the road by good friends. I once remarked to a wise and dear friend that I was still trying to get over the rainbow--she looked at me very seriously and said, "Doreen--you still don't get it--you ARE the rainbow"..which I guess is what I try to express in my art...This is a great post, Anthony--thanks for sharing!
Hi Anthony,
I associate myself with The Wizard -with modification, someone who lost his way and has refound it many times, doesn't knows or accept limitations and wants to help others.
.
But I love "You see, as an adult, sometimes I see things in my life in black and white, and sometimes they are a different color."
.
Warmest Regards,
.

I'm Dorothy - for 2 reasons:
1) she's navigating a surreal world and holds it together. She grew up on her journey
2) I'm all about red sparkly high heels.
To me, OZ is a vision that not everyone on the road understands - but it's still there.
Great Post, Anthony!
